My heater malfunctioned turning the tank from a mild 25 degrees C. to a toasty 36 degrees C. One catfish leapt out of the tank and subsequently died while another is missing presumed eaten. Benny managed to survive the disaster. Benny has now outlived two oscar companions and two catfish companions.

I am saddened to report the death of Bjorn. Bjorn took the unimaginable decision to commit suicide. He jumped out of his tank through a small gap in the glass and slowly baked under the tank light. The smell drove the cats mad. Benny is receiving counselling.

With the passing of Freda there was a space in my heart and in my tank for more fish. Despite most local aquariums (desperately) trying to give away red devils I ended up with a pair of Oscars duly named Bjorn and Benny. They had a rough start. I brought them home, not knowing the heater in the tank had been disconnected for about a week. They then promptly developed extreme white spot and required various potions, pills and tablets. None of this affected their appetites and they eat in a spectacularly messy fashion. It’s like feeding a baby, the food goes in, the food goes out, the food goes in, the food goes out…

I found my copy of this book on the bargain table in my local IGA supermarket which didn’t augur well but it turned out to be well worth the $6.95.

The book, at least nominally, is “chick-lit” however I found that it went a bit deeper than the usual “finding Mr Right” fluff. The story centres around 3 (sort of) sisters, their partners, their (sort of) Uncle and various catalyst characters. The usual themes of love, family, illness, infidelity, truth, lies and sex are explored as the sisters come to terms with a 30 year lie that changes the nature of their relationships with each other and their families. Basically, without giving away too much of the plot I really enjoyed this book and will be looking out for this author in the future.

Well readers, it’s nearly the end of the Winter school holidays. What has been accomplished? Well, a bit of cleaning, sorting and reorganizing. My Tax Return has been refiled from Fiction to Fantasy. The big news however is the progress of the main part of the Website. I’ve used sIFR to style the fonts used for headings. The next step is the development of databases using PHP and MySQL to keep track of media purchases.

Freda fish has passed on to the other side. Freda was surly, aggressive and had a violent temper. In many ways she reminded me of my students. She passed away after a short illness. A latin mass was said at 7am followed by interrment in the compost heap. Donations in lieu of flowers to the R.S.P.C.A.

I’ve finally bitten the bullet and signed up with web hosting provider BlueHost.com. That was 4 days ago. Since then I automatically installed WordPress, imported from WordPress.com and made a lot of alterations to the CSS. Then, a day later WordPress 2.2 was released which supports widgets. I spent 2 days upgrading!! I think I was having network problems too. I think that I’m finally back to where I started from.
